Viscose Rug Cleaning Notice

Please read this information carefully before authorising the cleaning of your viscose rug. It contains important information about the nature of viscose fibres and the limitations of our cleaning process.

What is a viscose rug?

Viscose (also known as rayon or art silk) is a semi-synthetic fibre made from processed plant cellulose — most commonly wood pulp or bamboo. It is widely used in rugs because it mimics the soft, lustrous appearance of silk at a fraction of the cost.

While viscose rugs can be strikingly beautiful, the same properties that give them their silky sheen also make them exceptionally fragile and highly reactive to moisture. This is important to understand before any cleaning takes place.

Pre-existing stains

It is important that clients are aware of the following: stains that are already present on a viscose rug before cleaning are unlikely to be fully removed.

Because viscose fibres are so absorbent, substances such as wine, coffee, pet urine, oil, and food penetrate deeply into the fibre core very quickly. Once a stain has set — particularly if it has dried or been there for any period of time — the stain becomes bonded to the fibre at a structural level.

Aggressive cleaning attempts to remove set stains can cause further damage, including fibre distortion, colour loss, and accelerated browning. Spark & Clean will take every precaution to minimise these effects, but we cannot guarantee the removal of pre-existing stains on viscose rugs.
