What Are Persian Rugs?

Persian and other handmade oriental rugs have a rich history that spans centuries, reflecting the cultural heritage and artistic traditions of their regions of origin. Persian rugs, originating from Iran, are renowned for their intricate designs and superior craftsmanship, often featuring symbolic motifs, medallions, and floral patterns. Similarly, handmade oriental rugs from regions such as Turkey, the Caucasus, Turkmenistan, China, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan each showcase unique patterns and techniques. These rugs not only serve as functional floor coverings but also as artistic expressions of the weavers’ cultural narratives and skills, passed down through generations.

Step 3 Dust and Debris Removal

Persian rugs can harbour a significant amount of dust, dirt, and allergens deep within their fibres. Our process starts with an intensive dusting phase using high-powered vacuum systems and specialized equipment to remove these particles. This step ensures that the subsequent washing process is more effective, as it allows the cleaning agents to penetrate the fibres more deeply.

Step 4 Automatic Rug Cleaning Machine

Unlike traditional manual cleaning methods, Spark and Clean utilises cutting-edge automatic rug cleaning machines. These machines provide a more thorough and consistent clean by using advanced technology to control water pressure, cleaning agents, and brush speed. The machine’s precision ensures that every part of the rug is cleaned evenly without causing any damage to the delicate fibres.

  • Washing: The rug is placed in the automatic cleaner where it undergoes a multi-stage washing process. Eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaning solutions are applied, which are safe for the wool and dyes of your Persian rug. These solutions effectively break down and remove dirt, stains, and any contaminants embedded in the fibres.
  • Rinsing: After washing, the rug is thoroughly rinsed to remove all cleaning agents. The machine ensures that the rinse is uniform, preventing any soap residue which can attract dirt and cause premature wear.

Step 5 Drying Process

Proper drying is essential to prevent mould, mildew, and damage to the rug’s structure. Our advanced drying process involves:mage from rapid or uneven drying.

  • Centrifuge: To ensure the rug is almost completely dry, it is placed in a high-speed centrifuge. This powerful machine spins the rug at high velocities, effectively removing the majority of the remaining water. This method is not only faster but also much more efficient compared to traditional air drying methods.
  • Controlled Drying Environment: The rug is then transferred to a climate-controlled drying room. Here, dehumidifiers and fans create the optimal conditions for drying. The controlled environment ensures that the rug dries evenly and thoroughly, preserving the integrity of the wool fibres and preventing any potential da

Step 6 Grooming and Final Inspection

Once the rug is dry, it undergoes a meticulous grooming process to restore its natural texture and appearance. This includes:

  • Pile Grooming: We use specialised grooming tools to lift and set the pile, enhancing the rug’s softness and restoring its original luster. This step also helps in realigning the fibres, which can become disoriented during the cleaning and drying processes.
  • Fringe Cleaning and Trimming: The fringes of Persian rugs are delicate and require special attention. We clean and trim the fringes to remove any remaining dirt and to restore their pristine appearance.
  • Final Inspection: Our technicians conduct a detailed final inspection to ensure the rug meets our high standards of cleanliness and quality. Any areas that require additional attention are addressed before the rug is returned to you.
